In commemoration of World Mental Health Day, First Lady Fazna Ahmed delivered a compelling address underlining the critical role of mental health care in nurturing a vibrant and productive society. Speaking at the inauguration of the second Psychology Symposium and Exhibition, organized by Villa College at the QI Campus, she emphasized the importance of accessible, affordable, and decentralized mental health services.

During her speech, the First Lady emphasized the need for comprehensive mental health care services that are within reach for all citizens, regardless of their geographical location or financial means. She passionately argued that such accessibility allows every individual to actively contribute to their communities, unburdened by untreated mental health issues.

Recognizing the importance of preventative measures in preserving mental health, the First Lady called for heightened efforts to detect and address mental health concerns through primary healthcare systems and educational institutions. She stressed that addressing mental health issues is pivotal in maintaining peaceful, prosperous, and productive communities.

Furthermore, First Lady Fazna urged everyone to shoulder the collective responsibility of ensuring proper mental health care for all, advocating that mental well-being should be rooted in values of courage and empathy. She expressed her hope that evidence-based treatments for mental health issues will remain readily available to those in need.

World Mental Health Day, observed annually on October 10, is centered around the theme of ‘Mental health is a universal human right’ for the year 2023. The First Lady’s passionate plea for accessible and decentralized mental health care resonates with the spirit of this theme, highlighting the importance of mental health as a fundamental human right that should be upheld and protected for the well-being of all members of society.
