Hulhumale' Reclamation Project Enters New Phase Amidst Policy Shifts

Urbanco, at the forefront of urban development, has announced the official launch of Phase 3 in the Hulhumale' reclamation project. This development marks a significant milestone in the initiative's progression, signaling a continuation from the groundwork laid during the previous government's tenure.

The dredging activities, paused after the presidential election, have now resumed, signaling a deliberate effort to address the persistent housing crisis in the city. This pause facilitated crucial repairs to dredging equipment and allowed for the natural rejuvenation of coral formations, showcasing a commitment to environmental conservation alongside developmental endeavors.

The project's strategic segmentation saw Phase 1 successfully reclaim 10 hectares of land before operations briefly halted. Under the current government's leadership, Phase 2 is actively underway, set to reclaim an additional 29 hectares through a meticulously planned three-stage process. The final phase, aimed at reclaiming 63 hectares, promises a significant expansion to accommodate the city's burgeoning housing demands.

Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMCC) has been entrusted with the pivotal responsibility of executing the dredging work within the predefined schedule, ensuring the project's steady progression. Concurrently, the Housing Minister has hinted at upcoming revisions to the land allocation process, particularly addressing concerns raised by individuals under the previous 'Binveriya Scheme.'

This proposed policy shift reflects a proactive response to growing complaints and apprehensions voiced by residents who acquired land through the previous administration's initiative. The government seeks to introduce modifications ensuring fairness and transparency in the allocation process, assuring citizens of equitable access to the reclaimed land.

The synchronized efforts between Urbanco, CMCC, and the Housing Ministry underscore a comprehensive approach aimed not only at urban expansion but also at addressing citizens' concerns and ensuring inclusive development.

As Phase 3 gains momentum, the forthcoming changes in land allocation policies signal a commitment to fostering a community-centric approach in the Hulhumale' reclamation project, shaping a future where development aligns harmoniously with the needs and aspirations of the city's residents.
